The Colby quote first appeared in Dave McGowan's book Derailing Democracy, published some years after Colby's death. There are some questions over its veracity. McGowan, however, asserts it is true and says Colby stated it to Meria Heller who hosted "Speaking Power to Power" apparently -although the link for that interview doesn't work, so who knows really. The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort.
