I thought the first guy to make a description to DPD of the alleged shooter was "Construction Man" (not Howard Brennan) according to Amos Euins (who said the shooter had a bald spot on his head) because Brennan was talking to someone else first, (Sorrells?) and was taken over to see the Deputy Sherriff after the description was broadcast. (I believe Dept. Sherriff Sawyer made a report to this effect but I don't remember where I saw it..)
There is also a story about the mis-identification of Oswald in the file being a part of a mole-hunting expedition by Angleton, who might have planted a bad description in a 201 CIA file (created a year after his defection to the USSR) in order to try to identify anyone who improperly accessed the information. (Think this story is called "State Secrets" on Mary Ferrel.org)
According to Russ Baker in "Family of Secrets" the Republican push to keep the hostages in Iran till after the election was initiated after a report by John Connally (who, by this point, was a Republican) to George H.W. Bush, that Connally's "oil contacts in the Middle East" heard a rumor that Carter had arranged for the release of he hostages.
I'm looking forward to your book.
