Manifesto
#9
Jan: I'd like to hear more about the "Naval shrink Lt Narut told British journalists about his work in creating cadres of assassins from psychopaths in prisons. Before Narut himself disappeared.". I did some preliminary googling and the first two "finds" were long online books that immediately went on to my "to be read" file. [I am now working on a patent for condensing massed digital or other text into digestible capsules I can have with breakfast.]

Magda: I'd like to know more about "that breeding programme in the US with the Air Force men". And, as for the rest, I'm with you: see the Ike quote in my signature line.

Google up the Active Denial System [start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Denial_System ] and investigate whether this is being developed as an “airborne” weapon as well. I've seen a recent blurb at Wired/Defense that says this hasn't panned out, but maybe that is disinformation. At any rate, we're spending (and gave spent) gobs of money in the military-industrial world for a lot of weapons that haven't panned out. And the ones that pan out are usually held inside a secret box of black budgets, black bases, and behind the “state secrets” wall.

Here's one post from such a Google:

The Militarization of Neuroscience
April 27, 2007
Hugh Gusterson / Bulletin of Atomic Scientists

The Pentagon is quietly researching new “NeuroWeapons” — mind-machine interfaces, “living robots" controlled via brain implants, soldiers with "cognitive feedback helmets," “brain fingerprinting,” “pulse weapons” that play havoc with enemy soldiers' thought processes, drugs that would enable soldiers to go without sleep for days, to suppress fear, or to repress psychological inhibitions against killing. We need an international debate on the ethics of such weapons research.

“It seems to me that, in placing our faith in military hardware and the philosophy that “it is better to be feared than to be loved,” we are inviting the entire world to emulate us, and to embrace coercion as the only principle by which to guide their actions.”

“Gary Zukav, physicist, former Special Forces officer and author of The Dancing Wu Li Masters, wrote an article titled “The New Mission of the Military: The Military and the Environment” where he states, “National security has become synonymous with protection of life on the Earth. The only strategy for the military that has a future is the strategy of protecting all life on our planet. The ability of the military collective to clothe, feed, train, deploy, and command groups of people is unmatched. It is the only organization, potential or actual, that has the capacity to address environmental problems on the scale that they exist.”
