Various efforts by "eager young judges" to uncover corrupt, right-wing elements involved in Italian political coups are 'damaging the morale' of the military and security services. The author of the cable then notes that the ongoing witch hunt "may involve a few bona fide witches", but expresses regret that the arrests may be used to some form of political advantage by the Italian left.
