The woman, Elizabeth Fowler, worked for Senator Max Baucus' Finance Committee and repesented medical insurance companies. That committee refused to allow doctors and nurses testify on behalf of a single-payer option. Maybe the Obamacare Act just might be modified when this lobbying fraud is brought to people's attention and the more expensive premiums start being billed of people, along with knowledge of uncovered medical patients.
Senator Baucus was a Democrat from Montana.

In the video, Senator Baucus remarked that to reach 60 votes, there could be no public/single-payer option (paraphrased). The way I remember it, those 60 votes included Democratic Senator Baucus and Independent Senator Lieberman, which were by no means automatic in support of the Affordable Care Act. I saw the early morning December 24th vote, and Independent Senator Sanders cast the 60th vote as he was late arriving, so to pass every vote was needed. There is room for discussion about democracy and the make-up of the U S Senate, but as I made reference to earlier, the ACA that was passed was what was available. Or, maybe I should say available for passage by the U S Senate. Your posted reference states it quite well. Yes, there is much room for improvement, but "tossing out and starting over", as some have called for, will not work. Starting over will require decades, many decades.
