Yeah. Radiation, besides its other problems causes damage to metal - causing it to become brittle and subject to corrosion. Additionally, some of the chemicals [acids] used in purifying metals such as Uranium/Plutonium are corrosive to metals. Nasty stuff, for a wide, WIDE variety of reasons. Toxic when mined. Toxic when refined. Toxic when used even for power. Toxic when there is an accident. Toxic [sic] when used as weapon. Toxic when disposed of. Just plain toxic to living things.
