E-Weapons: Directed Energy Warfare In The 21st Century
#2
Of course they are developing these types of weapons and how far advanced they are in practice is one of the closely guarded of top top secrets. I assume they exist operationally to some limited extent to fire laser pulses above the atmosphere [at missiles and satellites, etc.]...the technology to fire from space to ground or ground to space is more difficult, but I have read technical articles on progress being made in this, using pulsed lasers that adjust for the movements in the atmosphere with each pulse.

Of course as a DEFENSIVE weapon it is valid. My fear is, as with all other weaponry, America will use it OFFENSIVELY and preemptively.

It could even some day replace the killer drones and anyone anywhere 'they' want eliminated - or their home or car eliminated - could easily be, with the direction of a computer alone. Very ugly future we face unless WE get control of an out-of-control government.

"Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience! People are obedient in the face of poverty, starvation, stupidity, war, and cruelty. Our problem is that grand thieves are running the country. That's our problem!" - Howard Zinn
