It's a good question isn't it.
My guess is that the answer simply is that peace groups are inherently dangerous because they undermine the decades long-cum-generational "Global War on Terror" declared by Bush in 2001. Obama prefers the sneakier, softer term "Overseas Contingency Operation" - which could slip past even a diligent listener without raising a hackle.
The US Army has even struck a medal that is effective from 9/11/2001 onwards. Its the "Global War on Terrorism Service Medal" and is awarded for "direct support in service to the Global War on Terrorism".

War is good. War is profitable.
Peace is bad. It is non-profitable.
And it undermines the states ability to control its citizens - by force if need be.
