A lawyer [Dawn!] can correct me, but my thought was that while it only informed you of your rights - not conferred them, if you say anything, do anything, admit anything, volunteer anything physical THEY CAN USE IT! Most are so intimidated by the Police in the USA [they kill many before they get to the station], no matter how innocent - or even if a bit guilty - they often say and do too much - not in their favor. I myself was once put in a Federal jail pending seeing a judge and was not allowed to make a phone call, though I knew I had such a right. Justice [to paraphrase W] is just a seven letter word.
