Further, as Pat Speer has noted, there are some serious problems with those casts. And it does not look innocent.
Pat has a knack for understatement. Oak Ridge found incriminating evidence on the side of the cast which contacted Oswald's cheek and also found this damning evidence on the opposite side of the cast which did not touch Oswald.

It doesn't really matter. The Carcano was a poorly-machined mass produced rifle designed to arm Italy quickly for WWII. You won't find any specific single rifle that is gas-tight when fired.
It also doesn't matter if the current rifle was switched. It should be confiscated, examined for manipulation to make it gas-tight or any other adjustments, and test-fired. Same difference.
Americans forget, we have every right to do that by our original government contract of the United States Constitution.
If the rifle doesn't fit you must acquit.
